Just landed - wondering what gives the better rate in Curacao: ATM withdrawal or airport exchange counter?
Curaçao’s airport exchange counter charged noticeably higher rates compared to the bank ATMs. Using a Visa or Mastercard at Maduro & Curiel’s Bank ATMs in Willemstad saved me quite a bit. Always check your bank’s fees, but the rates are way better than the airport.
I stayed near Pietermaai and regularly used MC Bank ATMs for cash - much better exchange compared to the airport counter. The airport desk works in a pinch but it’s definitely not the best deal for withdrawing larger sums.
ATM wins hands down in Curaçao. The airport exchange desks seem convenient but their rates are marked up and fees add up fast. Use the Maduro & Curiel’s Bank ATM in Punda or Otrobanda for better rates and smaller fees.
