Wondering how to pay for metro and bus rides in Albania - cash only, or do cards work too?

Used buses in Tirana and Shkodër..no contactless, no tap, no fancy machines. Cash is king.

Albania’s public transport is pretty basic, especially in smaller towns. No metro system yet, and buses don’t take cards. I kept a little pouch of lek just for transport, saved me stress when I had no change at first.

no cards bro. paid cash every time. some buses have a guy who comes around collecting, some you just drop it in a box. super old school but it works.

Just got back from Tirana, all buses were cash only. No card machines, no apps. You hand the fare (usually 40 lek) to a person on the bus or directly to the driver. Have coins or small bills ready, they don’t love giving change.
