ATMs in Morocco keep asking Accept or Decline Conversion - what does that mean? Shows high charges for this

Rule of thumb anywhere, not just Morocco....always decline conversion. Those machines are just trying to make a profit off the exchange.

Don’t get tricked by it. “Accept” sounds safer but it’s how the ATM charges you extra. Always hit “Decline,” take the money in dirhams, and your card company will give you a fairer exchange rate. BMCE and BMCI happened twice there!

Yeah, I got that screen at a BMCE ATM. It showed a terrible rate and something like 6 percent markup. I declined and the actual rate was way better when I checked my bank statement later.

That’s Dynamic Currency Conversion. If you press “Accept,” the ATM converts the amount using its own exchange rate, which is usually much worse than your bank’s. Always choose “Decline” and let your bank handle the conversion in your home currency. Use Al Barid NO FEES

Again, at Al Barid - no conversion option offered. My withdrawal cost more than what my bank originally estimated. So I think it forcibly accepted conversion. Not cool, it shuold have been optional
