Tried 3 different banks in Vietnam and my Revolut card kept getting declined. Is this a Revolut issue or a Vietnam thing? Worked fine in Thailand last week.
I used my Revolut card daily in Thailand but hit a wall in Hoi An and Da Nang it was declined by most ATMs even when I had funds and active international settings. I reached out to Revolut and they confirmed that some Vietnamese ATMs reject foreign-issued cards by default, especially newer fintech brands. I switched to using my Wise Visa card, which worked at BIDV and Techcombank. Eventually found success with a TPBank ATM at Vincom Plaza Da Nang. it’s more a Vietnam ATM network problem than a Revolut-specific one, but carrying a backup card is a must.
This seems to be an issue if you’re using a Mastercard version of the card. I had success with my Visa Revolut card at MB Bank and TPBank, but not at BIDV or Agribank. One thing I learned: avoid using ATMs late at night, sometimes the terminals don’t have live connectivity and auto-decline foreign cards. Also make sure your location settings are on in the app, and the card is set to allow international transactions. It’s a Vietnam-specific compatibility issue, not a Revolut failure.
I also ran into this with my Revolut Visa debit while traveling through Ho Chi Minh City. It was declined at three different ATMs: Sacombank, VietinBank, and Techcombank. I almost thought my card was blocked, but it worked fine for online Grab payments and for buying a train ticket via Baolau. Later, I found a TPBank LiveBank ATM near Ben Thanh Market and it worked perfectly no fees either. Vietnam’s ATM systems can be patchy with foreign fintech cards. Revolut isn’t the problem per se, it’s the local bank networks.Tried 3 different banks in Vietnam and my Revolut card kept getting declined. Is this a Revolut issue or a Vietnam thing? I had the exact same issue in Vietnam last month. my Revolut Mastercard worked flawlessly in Thailand, but in Hanoi, I tried Vietcombank, BIDV, and Agribank ATMs and got declined every time. No specific error message, just card rejected. I contacted Revolut support via the app and they said it might be a combination of ATM network compatibility and local restrictions. They advised me to try TPBank or MB Bank, and sure enough, TPBank worked on the first try. Seems like Vietnam is picky with ATM networks, not necessarily a Revolut issue.Tried 3 different banks in Vietnam and my Revolut card kept getting declined. My two Visa cards didnt work at VP Bank in Vietnam, even though the machine showed Visa was accepted. No idea why.
