Ive tried several banks, and every time my card is declined. Its a Revolut card with enough balance. Is this a known issue in United States?

I just got back from my US trip across Austin and San Diego and had random issues using my Revolut Visa card. In some restaurants it worked without any trouble but it got declined at a local gas station and at a hostel vending machine. The ATM near my hotel in San Diego refused the card completely and said card not accepted. I checked with Revolut and they said it can happen due to how US terminals are set up to handle non-US prepaid cards. I was able to use Google Pay with the card more consistently so that became my main method. I wouldn’t rely on Revolut alone if you’re traveling in the US bring at least one backup Mastercard or Visa from a major bank.

I used my Revolut card in the US during my trip in April and while it worked fine for contactless payments in shops and Uber it was a nightmare at ATMs. I was in Miami and tried four machines including one at a Publix store and all declined the card with a generic error. My partner’s N26 card worked fine in the same machines. When I called Revolut they said I should enable magstripe in settings which I had already done. I finally found a PNC ATM near Coral Gables that worked. Since then I only use Revolut for purchases and carry a backup card from a traditional bank for withdrawals

Yes I ran into this exact problem in New York City two weeks ago. My Revolut Mastercard worked fine at Duane Reade and Target but it got declined at a Wells Fargo ATM and also at a hotel in Midtown. I had no idea what was wrong because the app showed no alerts and the funds were there. I reached out to Revolut support and they said some ATM networks in the US block prepaid-style cards even if they have full functionality. I ended up withdrawing cash from a Citibank ATM using my Dutch ING card and kept my Revolut for mobile purchases only. Definitely not just you I think it’s a known Revolut issue in the US.

I had a very frustrating time in Los Angeles last month trying to use my Revolut Visa card. It kept getting declined at Bank of America and Chase ATMs even though I had plenty of funds. I also had issues at two restaurants in West Hollywood where the card failed and I had to switch to my Barclays UK credit card. I contacted Revolut through the app and they told me that some US terminals still don’t recognize certain European-issued cards depending on their processor. Eventually I started using Apple Pay with my Revolut card and it worked better than inserting or swiping it directly. Not perfect but more reliable than I expected.
