I stayed in Kowloon and lived very local for a month. My daily costs were around 250 to 300 HKD. I had congee and buns for breakfast from tiny stalls, local lunch sets for under 50, and rice or stir fry dishes for dinner. I used buses and trams a lot since they were cheaper than the MTR and rarely needed more than 20 HKD a day on transport. I didn’t go to big attractions and mostly wandered around or used free parks and museums. Tips were almost never needed. I kept about 100 HKD in cash daily for food and transport and used card for anything over that.

Just wrapped up a month working remotely from Hong Kong and my budget hovered around 450 to 500 HKD a day including everything. I stayed in a midrange guesthouse in Sheung Wan and ate out twice a day. Dim sum lunches were usually around 80 HKD and noodle dinners were 50 to 70. I took the MTR and ferries often and topped up my Octopus once every four or five days with 200 HKD. Tipping was not expected anywhere unless I was in a bar or nicer hotel. I did some paid attractions like Peak Tram and museums which added up once a week. If you're not doing a lot of shopping, 60 USD a day is comfortable.

I did a month in Hong Kong living out of a hostel and my daily spend was around 300 to 350 HKD. I usually had breakfast from bakeries like Kee Wah for under 20 HKD, lunch at food courts or small noodle shops for 40 to 60, and dinner around the same unless I went for sushi or Korean BBQ which was more. Transport was cheap using the Octopus card and I probably spent 25 HKD per day moving around. I didn’t tip anywhere except once or twice at a sit down place in Central. Drinks and extras like SIM card data added a bit but it was still manageable under 50 USD a day total.

I stayed in Hong Kong for a full month earlier this year and averaged around 50 to 60 US dollars a day without trying to go ultra cheap. I ate at local places like cha chaan tengs where meals were about 40 to 70 HKD. MTR rides cost between 4 to 15 HKD depending on distance and I used an Octopus card the whole time. I took ferries, trams, and buses too and never needed more than 40 HKD per day on transport. I rarely tipped unless at a nicer restaurant. The only extras were snacks or coffee from places like Pacific Coffee or 7 Eleven. If you stick to local food and basic transport, 400 to 500 HKD per day is more than enough.
