Trying to find out if Indonesia widely accepts Amex cards in restaurants and shops and ATMs - any suggestions
Big cities and tourist spots like Bali, Yogyakarta, even parts of Gili T, cards are usually accepted at restaurants, spas, and stores. Smaller towns - forget it, cash is king. ATMs are around and worked well with my Wise card. Just always say no to conversion when withdrawing.
I was in Lombok and Flores and almost everywhere needed cash. Shops and restaurants didn’t take card. I did see a few machines but they didn’t work with my debit card....
I used my Mastercard in Jakarta and Surabaya at restaurants and malls. It worked fine in most places, especially the bigger chains. Local places might say card machine not working, so best to keep some cash. ATMs like BCA and BNI worked good. Just avoid the tiny ones in 7-Eleven type shops, sometimes they reject foreign cards.
In Bali, most cafes and restaurants in Ubud and Canggu took my Visa card no problem. Some even accepted contactless. But once I went to smaller towns or more local warungs, it was cash only.
Used my Dutch Revolut Visa at Bank Mandiri in Indonesia - worked without problems but don t rely on amex please it wont take it
BCA ATM next to Pepito Market, under Bistro Deli sign. Accepts Visa, Mastercard, and others. Good location.
ATM Mandarini inside a local market in Indonesia. Easy to find and accepted both Visa and Mastercard. Not amex
Bank Mandiri ATM had no physical buttons - had to use arrow heads. Worked with Wise Visa debit card.
