Is it better to pay taxis in Indonesia with cash, or do drivers accept cards or payment apps?

Nah, better use cash. Most drivers either don’t take card or say it’s not working. I just kept 100k rupiah on me at all times for rides.

In Bali and Yogyakarta, not one street taxi took card. They all wanted rupiah and usually didn’t have change for big notes. I started keeping small bills just for taxis and local transport. Apps like Grab or Gojek are way better if you want to avoid dealing with cash

I always paid taxis in cash. Tried to pay with card once and the driver just laughed. Grab app is much easier if you want to use digital payment.

Definitely carry cash if you’re taking regular street taxis. In Jakarta, Blue Bird taxis are the only ones I found that accepted cards, and even then, not all their cars have a working machine.
