The ATM just swallowed my debit card and didnt return it. This was in Indonesia, close to where Im staying. Any idea if local banks can help? Help SOS how to get it back

I lost mine in Bali too, machine just shut down right after I typed my PIN. I thought it would spit it out in a sec, but nope. I had to block the card through my bank app and used my backup for the rest of the trip. I went back to the ATM the next morning and someone had taped a paper to it saying “card inside, go to BRI branch.” So maybe check nearby if anyone left a note. Locals were super helpful in pointing me to the right place.

I had this happen in Surabaya and was able to get it back. The ATM was at a BCA branch, so I just went inside and explained everything. They asked me for ID and the time it happened. They opened the machine later that day and found my card. If the ATM was attached to a bank building and it’s still within business hours, go now and explain the situation. You’ll probably get it back if no one else touched it

Omg I feel you, that happened to me too in Lombok. I used a random ATM near a minimart and boom, card gone. No error, no message, just swallowed it. I went to the closest BNI bank and they said they can’t do anything unless it’s their machine. Turns out it was an independent ATM. Had to call my bank and block the card right away. So yeah, if it’s a proper bank ATM you’ve got a chance. If not, better to cancel and order a new one.

Same thing happened to me in Ubud at a Mandiri ATM. I freaked out at first but went to the nearest Mandiri branch the next morning. The staff were really calm about it and told me they collect the cards from machines daily. I had to show my passport and tell them the exact time and place.
