My card was taken by an ATM near my hotel in Thailand. Has this happened to anyone else? Solution?
My card got stuck in a Kasikorn ATM near Khao San Road. Luckily it was outside a branch. I took a photo of the ATM, the screen, and the address. Went to the bank next morning with my passport, showed them the pic, and they found it during their daily ATM sweep. I got it back in 10 minutes. Staff were super helpful. Tip: Take a photo of the ATM & location!
Happened in Phuket - got a temp card sent to my hostel. My ICICI card was eaten by a Bangkok Bank ATM in Phuket Town. Called the number on the ATM (it was written right there). They asked me to visit the branch next door with ID. But since I was moving on to Krabi the same day, I didn’t have time. Blocked the card and ICICI couriered a new one to my hostel in Ao Nang in 4 days. Lifesaver.
No luck in Chiang Mai, had to cancel my Monzo. Used an ATM attached to a FamilyMart in Chiang Mai (SCB ATM). My card didn’t come out. No bank branch nearby, and store staff couldn’t help. Called SCB’s helpline, but since it wasn’t a major branch location, they said the ATM would be emptied in a few days and I could maybe collect it with ID. I didn’t risk it - just froze my card and ordered a replacement via the Monzo app.
Same - Card swallowed at Krungsri ATM but got it back next day. Happened to me in Bangkok, outside my hotel near Asok. Used a Krungsri Bank ATM, and after a delay, it just kept my card. I went inside the branch next morning with my passport and hotel booking confirmation. Took 30 mins of waiting, but they gave it back. Pro tip: avoid using ATMs late at night when branches are closed.
