Just landed - wondering what gives the better rate in Bolivia: ATM withdrawal or airport exchange counter?
Withdrew from BNB at the airport, rate was decent. Still better than the exchange booth. I usually just take out enough for transport and meals, then do a bigger withdrawal in town.
I landed in Santa Cruz and tried both just to compare. ATM gave me 15 percent more than the counter, even with fees. Airport booths are super convenient but not worth the loss unless it’s an emergency.
Airport exchange gave me like 6.3 when the real rate was over 6.8. Never again. ATM outside the terminal was way better.
Definitely go with ATMs. The exchange counters at El Alto airport were offering awful rates when I landed. I withdrew from ATMs and Stan Chart was great - no feees 🙂
