Traveling with an Amex - will I be able to use it widely in American Express or should I carry a backup Visa/Mastercard?
Only time my Amex worked was at an expensive hotel in Uyuni. Now I keep it for emergencies and do most payments with a Visa debit. Just easier.
I tried using Amex in Sucre and Cochabamba and had zero luck. Most places straight-up told me they don’t accept it.
Used my Amex at a hotel in La Paz and that’s about it. Restaurants, hostels, tour companies,, all asked for Visa or cash. Definitely bring a backup. 🙂
Amex didn’t work for me in most places. Even big shops in Santa Cruz said no. Switched to Visa for everything.
Couldnt withdraw from Bn Ganadero using my American Express card. Might not be accepted.
BNB ATM worked perfectly with my foreign Visa debit card. No problems at all. But I did not see an Amex sticker so likely not.
