Wondering if ATMs and places like restaurants shops in Brazil easily take American Express or its better to get a Visa or Mastercard
Visa is king in Brazil. I used it at Itaú ATMs, pharmacies, cafés, everywhere. My Amex only worked at fancy restaurants and airports. Even big stores like Renner or Extra didn’t take it sometimes.
Used my Revolut Mastercard for everything in São Paulo, Ubers, restaurants, even beach vendors. I had an Amex too but it only worked in like 2 out of 10 places. Most terminals didn’t even have the option for it.
lol forget Amex unless ur in a luxury hotel or airport lounge. i tried using it at 3 restaurants in Salvador and they all said “no funciona.” switched to Visa and it worked fine.
Amex didn’t work in most small shops I went to in Florianópolis and Recife. Larger stores were okay,My Mastercard from N26 worked everywhere, no problem at all.
Bradesco works really well in Brazil. Used a regular debit card (not Amex) and had no issues with the transaction. Better to get Visa / Master
ATM at BRADESCO in Brazil worked just fine for me while traveling from Germany. No issues with my foreign card. But did not see too many places accepting Amex
