Is it better to pay taxis in Suriname with cash, or do drivers accept cards or payment apps?

Budget tip for Suriname - carry enough Surinamese dollars for taxi rides since card or app payments aren’t widely accepted. Larger cities have some taxi companies with card readers, but most will still expect cash, especially outside Paramaribo.

I’ve found it’s easier to pay taxis in Suriname cash rather than card. Many drivers don’t have card machines or the apps set up. Even some bigger cabs prefer cash for immediate payment, so always keep some on you.

Taxis in Suriname mostly want cash, especially smaller ones. Apps and card payments aren’t common. When I stayed near Central Market, I used cash for taxis and bus fares. ATMs are available but not everywhere, so plan ahead.

In Paramaribo, most taxis still prefer cash and don’t take credit cards or mobile apps. I paid in Surinamese dollars, which is accepted everywhere. It’s best to withdraw enough cash at Republic Bank ATMs since cards aren’t really accepted in taxis.
