Do hostels in Bolivia accept cards or only cash?

Want to avoid last-minute ATM runs. Do most hostels in Bolivia take card payments at check-in

Depends where you are. Tourist hotspots are fine for card. Smaller towns, better have cash or you’ll be hunting for an ATM late at night like I did.

Bigger hostels like Wild Rover and Selina took my card with no issues. But when I stayed in smaller places in Potosí and Samaipata, they only accepted cash... :/

Nope. Mine in Uyuni said “card machine broken” and wanted full payment in bolivianos. Wasn’t even broken I think, they just prefer cash.

In La Paz and Sucre, most hostels let me pay with card, but sometimes only if you booked online. A few smaller ones asked for cash, especially if you just walked in. I’d say message ahead or carry some cash just in case.
