ATMs in Bolivia keep asking Accept or Decline Conversion - what does that mean? Shows high charges for this

Happened to me in Sucre too. The “Accept” button looks like the safe choice, but it’s actually worse. Just say no and you’ll save a few bucks every time.

In La Paz I saw this every time I used a foreign card. It shows some weird exchange rate and a markup. I declined the conversion and let my bank handle it. Rate was way better. Just remember to check for that screen before hitting confirm.

Yeah, never accept it. That screen is basically asking if you wanna get ripped off.

That’s dynamic currency conversion. If you hit “Accept,” the ATM converts at their own inflated rate. I learned the hard way ,lost like 9 percent on one withdrawal. Always choose “Decline” and take the money in bolivianos. Your home bank will do the conversion cheaper.

Use Decline Conversion when prompted at Banco Union ATMs - itll save you from unnecessary fees.

At Banco Fie, if youre prompted for conversion, always choose Decline Conversion to avoid extra charges.
