My card was taken by an ATM near my hotel in Ecuador. Has this happened to anyone else? Solution?

Always use ATMs inside banks during the day. The outdoor ones are risky. Mine got stuck once in Loja and no one could help till the next business day.

It’s pretty common. My Wise card got swallowed by a Banco del Pacífico ATM. I went to the bank but they said they don’t return foreign cards. Ended up cancelling and having a new one shipped to my hostel.

Happened to me in Cuenca. Internacional Bank ATM froze mid-transaction and never gave my card back. I blocked it right away in my bank app and used my backup. M

Yes, my debit card was eaten by a Banco Pichincha ATM in Quito near Parque La Carolina. I went to the nearest branch the next morning with my passport, told them what time it happened, and they found it inside the machine. Took about 30 minutes but I got it back. They were surprisingly helpful. Just don’t wait too long.

Internacional Bank in Ecuador worked great with my German Mastercard credit card. No fees even after multiple $400 withdrawals. My German Visa debit didnt work though.
