I found Puerto Rico pricier than I first thought. In San Juan, mofongo dishes cost $15-18, while drinks in bars were $8 each. I relied on Uber, spending $10-15 a day just on rides. Tips were the same as back home in the States - 18-20%. My average spend was about $70 daily for food, transport, and tips. Days with car rental and road trips to Rincon or Ponce went higher. Free beaches balanced things out, but Puerto Rico definitely felt more like US pricing than Latin America.

Puerto Rico’s daily costs vary a lot depending on how you get around. Food: $8-10 for casual plates, $20+ for tourist restaurants. Transport: buses are very cheap but limited, Uber is $10 per ride, and car rentals $35-40 daily. Tips: follow the US rule, 15-20%. A safe budget is $65-75 daily for meals, local transport, and tips. If you stick to street food and buses in San Juan, it drops closer to $50. But island exploration almost requires a car, which pushes the daily spend higher.

I averaged about $80 daily in Puerto Rico, mixing local food with some nicer dinners. Casual meals were $10-12, but seafood dinners in Condado were closer to $20-25. Transport added up since I rented a car at $35 daily plus fuel - public transport isn’t reliable outside San Juan. Tipping is 15-20%, same as the mainland US. With this budget, I enjoyed dinners, day trips to beaches, and even an occasional bar night in Old San Juan without stressing about costs.

Puerto Rico isn’t the cheapest island, but you can still keep things manageable. Street food like alcapurrias or empanadillas runs $3-4, and simple meals at local cafeterias are $8-10. Publicos (shared vans) cost around $2-3, while Uber in San Juan is convenient at $7-1Tipping follows US customs, 15-20% in restaurants. A budget traveller can manage on $45-50 daily if they eat at local spots and use public transport. Beach days and hiking in El Yunque are free, so you don’t have to overspend every day.
