Is it better to pay taxis in Saint Barthelemy with cash, or do drivers accept cards or payment apps?

If you’re visiting Saint Barthelemy, expect to pay for taxis in cash. The island’s small, so payment apps or cards aren’t widespread with drivers. Euros or US dollars work fine, and it’s easy to get cash from local ATMs. Cash helps avoid any awkward payment issues.

I landed in Gustavia and noticed that the airport taxis were strictly cash. Drivers rely on tips and quick payments, so no cards or apps. Hotels might arrange rides with card payments, but in general, carrying some cash is the best bet.

Saint Barthelemy taxis are mostly cash-only. I carried euros and handed cash directly to drivers. Payment apps or cards weren’t an option for me. If you have cash, it makes it simple and quick. Many small taxis don’t have POS machines.

Most taxi drivers in Saint Barth prefer cash. I found that even in Gustavia, card machines are rare, and apps aren’t popular. Euros are usually accepted, and it’s easier for everyone if you pay in cash. If you’re staying at luxe spots, some drivers might take cards, but cash works everywhere.
