Travelling soon - any advice if hostels accept cards in Dominica or I have to give them cash
Here’s a tip from my trip: in Roseau, places like Le Petit Paradis welcome both card and cash-Visa and Mastercard are usually fine. Just watch out-ATMs are rare, and small shops or market stalls often only take cash. My advice? Bring enough EC-dollars or US-dollars along with your card. That combo made everything-from hostels to hikes-a total breeze.
I hit up Roseau Hostel & Beach Front Property and paid with my debit card at check-in-smooth. Most tourist-facing hostels have machines. But exploring the island, I realized ATMs are sparse and local vendors often prefer cash. Carrying some EC or US dollars rescued me more than once when stops didn’t take anything else.
Just got back from Dominica! Stayed at Le Petit Paradis in Roseau-super chill place-and they took card or cash no problem. Room cost wasn’t an issue at all. Still, ATMs are few and far between on the island, so I had some EC-dollar cash in my wallet for local stalls and mini-buses. Cards worked great for the hostel, but cash came in handy elsewhere!
In Dominica-as in Roseau-hostels like Le Petit Paradis and Roseau Hostel & Beach Front accept both cash and credit/debit on arrival. Visa and Mastercard are usually okay, though AmEx can cause trouble. ATMs are pretty scarce, so carrying some EC dollars or USD just in case is smart.
