Travelling soon - any advice if hostels accept cards in Bonaire or I have to give them cash
I’d book your stay ahead and use a card at places like Oasis Guesthouse-they take card, bank transfer or cash if you let them know in advance. But while exploring Kralendijk or doing local stuff, bring some small USD bills just in case vendors or smaller operations don’t run card terminals. That mix worked perfectly for me!
I crashed at a chill guesthouse near Donkey Beach-cards worked fine for my room, though I tipped the lady in cash for helping me with the mini-bar. Everywhere tourist-oriented, like cafés and dives, took cards, but taxis and a couple of mini-snacks didn’t. So I’d say: go ahead and pay with card, but just carry a few USD bucks.
Just back from diving off Bonaire’s reefs-hostels and guesthouses like Oasis Guesthouse in Kralendijk were super flexible with payments. I paid with my Visa without a hitch. But I did carry some small-denomination USD for roadside snacks or market stalls that didn’t take cards. Having both made life easy, especially in quieter spots!
“I stayed at Oasis Guesthouse in Belnem, Bonaire last month and they accepted credit/debit cards including Visa, Mastercard, and Maestro-plus cash or bank transfer if arranged ahead of time. So yes, cards are widely accepted, though I kept a little USD for small vendors or taxis just in case.” (Based on Oasis policies and traveller reports.)
