Trying to figure out if buses and metros in Syria take cards or if Ill need small cash. Any recent experiences?
Syria’s transport is very cash-dependent. I used buses around Homs and never saw anyone paying with cards. With no metro, it’s important to have small notes of Syrian pounds for buses and taxis. ATMs are limited and often unreliable, so stash cash beforehand.
If you’re in Syria, don’t plan on using cards on public transport. It’s all cash fares. Syria uses Syrian pounds, and people expect exact fare in hand. No metro system means buses are the only public transit option for now, so be prepared to have lots of cash.
I traveled around Syria recently and was surprised by how cash-based everything still is. No card payments on buses or shared taxis. I took buses in Damascus and had to carry small bills to pay fares. No metros exist yet, so cash is your best bet for transport.
In Syria, public transport like buses in Damascus and Aleppo definitely only take cash. The fares are very low, and you just pay the driver as you get on. Cards aren’t used on public transport at all. There’s no metro system in Syria, so it’s all about buses and taxis. Small Syrian pounds in cash are a must.
