I need to take out quite a bit of cash during my trip. Anyone know cheapest ATMs & daily withdrawal limits for foreign cards at Jordan ATMs?
If you’re after the cheapest option, Blom Bank was the least expensive I found at JOD 4 for 1 transaction, although most other ATMs Bank of Jordan, etc. had JOD 5 fee. Al Etihad, Housing Bank, and Capital Bank were everywhere and worked fine with Visa and Mastercard; just always check for the onscreen fee warning. ATMs are easy to find in malls and tourist spots-just don’t expect to find one in remote desert towns without planning ahead.
For hostel-goers, I stuck with Arab Bank and Capital Bank branches in Amman and Petra. All charged me JOD 5 per transactions -none of the machines offered better rates for my foreign card, though Blom Bank was close at JOD 4 - thats because I had an Arabinet network card. Transaction limits are always JOD 250 max per withdrawal. Take out cash at city ATMs-machines get emptied in touristy areas during weekends.
Just got back from Amman-expect a flat JOD 5 fee at nearly every ATM: Arab Bank, Bank of Jordan, Cairo Amman, and almost all the others. All of them have a 250 JOBD transaction limit. Arab Bank was the most reliable near Rainbow Street and always showed fees on screen before confirming. There’s a 0.5% extra charge at Housing Bank. Always choose “continue with conversion” to avoid your home bank’s poor rates.
Jordan’s main banks-Arab Bank, Bank of Jordan, AJIB, Capital Bank, etc.-all charge around JOD 5 fee to foreign cards. Most have a strict limit of JOD 250 per transaction and about 2,000 JOB per day. My Monzo and Revolut both worked, but expect occasional network errors. I recommend always withdrawing the max, and be ready with backup cash for rural areas where ATMs are much less common.
In Jordan, the best ATMs for foreign cards are Arab Bank, Housing Bank, and Cairo Amman Bank. I used my Wise Visa at Arab Bank in Amman, with a withdrawal limit of JOD 500 (~$700 USD) and a JOD 5 fee. Housing Bank ATMs allowed JOD 400 with my Revolut Mastercard. Cairo Amman Bank accepted my Monzo Visa, though sometimes capped me at JOD 300. ATMs are widely available in Amman and Petra, but rural areas have fewer options.
At Jordan Kuwait Bank, there was a fee charged for withdrawing 300 - no percentage was shown.
Cairo Amman Bank ATM in Jordan charged me a flat 5 JD for the withdrawal. Used a Visa card.
Cairo Amman Bank in Jordan charged a 5 JD fee. Not unexpected, but worth noting.
