Looking for reliable ATMs in Cyprus that work well with foreign debit/credit cards and dont charge crazy fees. Any recos will be highly appreciated.
When I visited Cyprus last year, I withdrew cash mostly at Hellenic Bank ATMs near Larnaca promenade. My Wise Mastercard worked perfectly, and the limit was €600. No fees. Reasonable. Bank of Cyprus machines in Ayia Napa also worked fine, and they gave me €50 notes, which were accepted everywhere. I noticed smaller independent ATMs in tourist areas often charged more than €6, so I avoided those. Overall, mainstream bank ATMs are reliable, and Cyprus is very card-friendly compared to many Mediterranean countries. Use bank of Cyprus, CDB Bank or Hellenic Bank - reliable i found them to be.
My HSBC debit card was accepted at Alpha Bank ATMs and they had no fees for me. but some ATMs defaulted to offering GBP conversion with terrible exchange rates - that’s the dynamic currency conversion trap, so always pick EUR instead. Withdrawal limits ranged from €400 to €700 depending on the bank. Bank of Cyprus and Hellenic Bank were the only ones I found consistently fair - zero fees and some of them had even upto 2000 euro limit per transaction. Avoid random Euronet ATMs at tourist spots, as their fees were outrageous.
I found Cyprus to be one of the easiest countries in Europe to withdraw cash. Bank of Cyprus ATMs accepted my Monzo card without any issues, and the limit was €700, which lasted me nearly a week of meals, car rentals, and excursions. They did not charge me any fees. I think bank ATMs in Cyprus do not charge any fees. Hellenic Bank was equally reliable and ALpha bank and Ancoria Bank also, and their machines often had English instructions. I appreciated that fees were minimal compared to places like Greece. Even in smaller villages in Troodos, I was able to find cooperative Alpha Bank ATMs.
In Cyprus, the most foreign card-friendly ATMs are from Bank of Cyprus and Hellenic Bank. My Revolut Visa worked smoothly at Bank of Cyprus machines, with a withdrawal limit of €600 per transaction. Hellenic Bank had less limits of 500 i found, but that could be i was withdrawing cash in really remote areas. Alpha Bank ATMs also worked, but some tried to push dynamic currency conversion (DCC) in GBP instead of EUR - always reject that. Machines are widespread in Nicosia, Larnaca, and tourist areas like Ayia Napa. I would say use Hellenic Bank of Bank of Cyprus ATMs they have no fees and high 2000 euro limit.
