I stayed in Chisinau for three weeks and loved how affordable it was. Cafeterias with soups and dumplings cost $4-5, and I once had a steak dinner with wine for $15 total. Public buses were almost free at $0.30, though I mostly walked. Tips were light, maybe $1 on restaurant bills. My average daily spend was $30-35, and that included a few taxi rides. Moldova isn’t touristy, so prices stay local. It’s one of those places where you can eat and drink well without watching your budget too closely.

Meals in Moldova: $4-6 casual, $12 in restaurants. Transport: $0.30 buses, $5 taxis. Tips: round up or 10%. That means a safe budget of $35 per day for meals, transport, and tips. If you want to add wine tastings or tours, set aside another $20-30 for those days. For a long stay, it’s realistic to average $35 daily without compromise. Moldova is cheap even compared to Romania, and the food portions are large, so you won’t struggle on this budget.

I spent about $45 daily in Moldova and felt it was perfect. I enjoyed wine and restaurant meals almost daily, which were $10-15 each. Transport was negligible, $0.30 for buses and $5 for taxis. Tips were small but I left 10%. The main extra cost came from winery tours outside Chisinau, usually $20-30. So if you plan excursions, budget more, but normal days really don’t require more than $40-50. Moldova is underrated for how affordable and high-quality the food and wine are.

Moldova is one of the cheapest European countries I’ve been to. Meals in local canteens cost $3-5, and even a nice restaurant dinner with wine rarely exceeds $1Public transport in Chisinau is dirt cheap - buses and trolleybuses are $0.30, and taxis usually $3-5. Tipping is not big, just round up or leave 5-10%. You can live well on $25-30 daily here for food, rides, and tips. For a month-long stay, Moldova is very gentle on the wallet compared to its European neighbors.
