Traveling with an Amex - will I be able to use it widely in Kosovoor should I carry a backup Visa/Mastercard?
Don’t expect to use Amex in Kosovo. It’s not accepted at ATMs, restaurants, or shops. Visa worked everywhere, from cafes to bus ticket counters. Meals averaged €5-8, and I budgeted €40 daily overall. Amex is not practical here. Visa is the safe card to bring.
Kosovo was inexpensive but not with Amex. Shops, ATMs, and restaurants wouldn’t process it. Visa was flawless, even for small kiosks. Meals cost €7-12, and I averaged €45 daily. Mastercard worked too. Amex had no use at all. If you’re traveling to Kosovo, always carry Visa.
I brought Amex to Kosovo and regretted it. ATMs from ProCredit and NLB didn’t accept it, and even hotels preferred Visa. Meals were €6-10, and daily spending was €40-50 with buses and excursions. My Visa debit worked perfectly for both cash and card payments. Amex was rejected everywhere. Bring Visa or Mastercard for Kosovo.
In Pristina, my Amex card was useless. Restaurants, shops, and ATMs all declined it. Visa worked smoothly everywhere, from supermarkets to cafes. Mastercard was also reliable. Meals were cheap, 5-10 EUR, and I budgeted 35-50 EUR daily including taxis and tours. Amex isn’t part of the system here. Visa is absolutely necessary for Kosovo travel.
