Is American Express (Amex) accepted in Albania?

Tried Amex in 3 cities : Durrës, Tirana, and Gjirokastër. Not accepted even at larger supermarkets. It’s mostly Visa and Mastercard that work. Even some places with a card terminal said “only Visa.”

Used Amex once at a car rental desk in Tirana Airport. That’s it.

yea not much luck with Amex here. my card didn’t work at any ATM either. had to switch to Mastercard for every purchase. def bring a backup.

Forget Amex in Albania. Most shops, restaurants, and even hotels don’t accept it. I had to use my Visa almost everywhere. The only time Amex worked was at a big hotel in Tirana.
