Wondering if ATMs and places like restaurants shops in Luxembourg easily take American Express or its better to get a Visa or Mastercard
Don’t expect widespread Amex use in Luxembourg. ATMs didn’t accept it, and restaurants declined it. Visa and Mastercard were both reliable and worked at shops, supermarkets, and transport systems. Budget at least €120-150 daily. Amex was useful only at luxury hotels or branded boutiques. For everyday expenses like meals and drinks, Visa was smoothest. Amex isn’t practical for Luxembourg trips.
Luxembourg is expensive but easy with Visa or Mastercard. Amex was accepted only in high-end shops along Grand Rue. Restaurants, bakeries, and ATMs didn’t take it. Meals cost €20-30, and attractions were €10-15. I spent €140 per day including buses and dining. Visa worked everywhere. Amex just slowed me down, so I used it once and switched back to Mastercard.
I tried using Amex in Luxembourg City and got declined in most restaurants. ATMs didn’t process it either. Visa worked perfectly everywhere, including buses and train stations. Daily costs were high - €15-20 for simple meals, €50+ for dinners. I averaged €130 per day overall. Mastercard was also reliable. Amex only worked at luxury hotels. If you want hassle-free travel, Visa is a must.
Luxembourg is modern, but American Express isn’t everywhere. ATMs from BGL BNP and Spuerkeess didn’t work with Amex. Visa and Mastercard were much smoother. I budgeted €120-150 per day because meals, transport, and accommodation are pricey. Restaurants in the city center rarely accepted Amex, but Visa worked fine even for small purchases. Amex was only accepted at upscale hotels and boutiques.
