Wondering if I need cash for taxis in Finland or if I can just pay with card or app like in other countries?

From my experience in Finland, you’ll rarely need cash for a taxi. All the cabs I tried had card readers, and most drivers even encouraged me to pay that way. Contactless payments worked fast and felt very normal here. Using apps was also smooth-you just add your card and don’t even think about the fare when you step out. Carrying cash is optional, not a requirement. If you’re coming from countries where cash is king, Finland feels the opposite.

My visit to Finland proved you can definitely get by without cash in taxis. The drivers are used to people paying by card, and the terminals worked flawlessly each time I rode. I found it easiest to just tap with my phone, no coins or bills involved. Apps are widely used, and they allow you to link a card so the payment is automatic. If you like the idea of traveling with little or no cash, Finland is perfect.

I was impressed by how easy taxis were in Finland. Not only did every car accept cards, but I also used my digital wallet without issues. It’s common for people to never carry cash, and taxis reflect that. There are no surprises, no machines “not working” excuses, and the apps make it even simpler. If you’re planning a trip, don’t stress about euros in hand for rides-plastic or digital payment is all you’ll ever need in Finland.

In Finland, taxis are very card-friendly. I used them in Helsinki and Tampere and every single car had a functioning card machine. Most even accept contactless or Apple Pay, so you don’t need to worry about cash. I didn’t once have to use euros for rides, which was really convenient. There are apps like TaksiHelsinki and Yango that let you book and pay directly with your card too. Honestly, Finland is one of those places where you can go completely cashless.
