Wondering if I need cash for taxis in Albania or if I can just pay with card or app like in other countries?
Albania’s still a cash-first country for cabs. I only saw one driver with a card reader and it wasn’t working. Even if you're using ride apps, assume it’s cash unless they clearly say otherwise.
I used the Ups taxi app in Tirana and it lets you add a card, but when the driver showed up, he still wanted cash. Apparently the app doesn’t guarantee payment. Best to always confirm before the ride.
nope, no cards. paid cash every time. even the Bolt app drivers in Saranda asked for cash. super different from other places in Europe.
Most taxis in Tirana are cash only. I asked three drivers if I could pay by card ...all said no. I ended up withdrawing some lek at a Union Bank ATM. Definitely keep cash on hand for rides.
