Wondering how to pay for metro and bus rides in Netherlands - cash only, or do cards work too?

I used a prepaid OV-chipkaart during my trip to Utrecht. It works on all trains, buses, and trams. You can buy and reload it with cash or card at stations. But honestly, if your card supports tap-to-pay, that’s even easier now.

Super easy! In Amsterdam I just tapped my contactless Mastercard directly on the tram and metro gates. No need for a ticket or transport card. Worked with my Wise card too.

i booked everything online and paid the rest with Mastercard at check-in in Leiden. No cash needed. But I did keep like €20 just in case their machine ever went offline.
