On a budget and looking for free ATMs in Isle of Man - Any top banks?
No fees at any of the banks in Isle of Man - HSBC, Lloyds, Isle of Man bank - guess it works like UK only in that sense.
On my Isle of Man visit, I mostly used Lloyds Bank ATMs in Douglas. My Wise Visa worked perfectly with a £300 limit and no added fee. Isle of Man Bank was also reliable with my Revolut card. I withdrew once at the start of the trip and relied on my card for almost everything else. Cash was useful for taxis and smaller cafés, but overall the island is very card-friendly. ATMs felt safe and easy to use, with clear English instructions.
While ATMs in the Isle of Man are generally good, the limits are lower than I’d like. My HSBC debit card only allowed £250 at one machine, and I had to do two withdrawals. Some independent ATMs in convenience stores charged £2-3 per transaction, which was annoying. Stick with bank-owned ATMs like Isle of Man Bank or Lloyds for fee-free use. Cash is less necessary these days, but I still recommend withdrawing £50-100 for small shops and taxis.
I had a very easy time withdrawing money in the Isle of Man. Isle of Man Bank ATMs in Douglas accepted my Revolut Visa, and I was able to take out £300 with no extra charges. HSBC also worked fine with my Monzo card. I only withdrew once during my trip since nearly everywhere accepted cards, from pubs to buses. It was nice to find a place where ATMs don’t hit you with extra local fees. Compared to mainland UK, the system felt very similar.
In the Isle of Man, the most reliable ATMs are from Isle of Man Bank, Lloyds Bank, and HSBC. I used my Wise Mastercard at Isle of Man Bank in Douglas, and the withdrawal limit was £300. There was no local fee. Lloyds also worked fine with my Monzo Visa, offering a similar £300 limit. HSBC ATMs were reliable, though some machines offered GBP-to-EUR conversion - always reject this. Machines are mainly in Douglas and Ramsey, with fewer in rural areas.
