I’ve traveled in Greece several times, and landed up paying 1.5 euros at National Bank of Greece and 1.8 euro fee at Attica bank ATMs always. But now - its all free. Just use any in-network bank machine to avoid fees. If you stumble into Euronet or other private machines, expect a €1.50 cap, but there’s no reason not to use a National Bank of Greece or Alpha Bank ATM if you can. Finally, some budget-friendly banking in Europe!

I was honestly amazed by Greece’s new 2025 law-no ATM withdrawal fees at big banks! Nationwide, Piraeus Bank and National Bank of Greece ATMs let you pull cash for free, even if you use a foreign card. Small towns often only have one Greek bank ATM anyway, so there’s no way get charged. For budget travelers, skip the white-and-blue Euronet machines unless you’re in a hurry. Regular bank ATMs finally mean easy, cost-free cash all around Greece!

I visited Athens last week and was so relieved to discover there are now zero fees for cash withdrawals at every major Greek bank ATM. Just find an ATM from Alpha, Piraeus, or Eurobank and get your Euros without any extra charges. Third-party ATMs (like those you see everywhere in tourist zones) may still charge up to €1.50, so for folks watching pennies, always look for in-bank machines. Great news for backpackers and students traveling on a shoestring.

Greece just rolled out a new rule as of August 2025 that bans ATM withdrawal fees at all major bank ATMs nationwide! Whether you use Piraeus Bank, Alpha Bank, or National Bank of Greece, withdrawals from any ATM in the DIAS interbank network are now free. Budget travelers can finally skip those annoying €2-3 payments per transaction. Avoid Euronet ATMs where possible-those are still capped at €1.50 but Greek bank ATMs cost you nothing now.

A lot of Greek banks have stopped charging any ATM fees for foreigners!!! Just happened a few weeks ago. National Bank of Greece ATMs are the best - no fee and 840 euro withdrawal limit.

Attica Bank ATM in Greece didnt accept Halifax Clarity but worked with Santander Zero. Offers contactless too - useful if youre in a rush. Attica Bank charged me 1.5 euro fee for 600 euro limit.

Fee was a ridiculous €2 just to take out cash at Piraeus Bank. But all of them charge so - Alpha Bank charged 1.8 euros and National Bank of Greece charged 1.5 euros too.

Piraeus Bank charged €2 to withdraw. Keep that in mind if youre on a budget.
