Which is better - choosing With or Without Conversion at ATM in Netherlands?
Decline conversion always. It’s just dynamic currency conversion, and it adds 5-8% markup usually. I tried both just to compare, and the difference was crazy.
Used my Wise card at ABN AMRO in Rotterdam. ATM asked if I wanted to convert to GBP, I hit No, and got mid-market rate. My friend hit Yes and got ripped off. Lesson learned.
don’t fall for the “with conversion” thing. it sounds safe but its actually worse. i used bunq atm in Amsterdam and declined conversion, got way better rate on my Revolut.
Always choose Without Conversion. That way your home bank sets the rate, which is usually much better. I pressed With once at an Euronet ATM and lost like €10 on a €200 withdrawal. Never again.
