Trying to avoid paying crazy ATM fees while traveling in Norway. Anyone found ATMs that are free for foreign cards? Would love specific banks or locations if possible.

On my Norway trip, I withdrew cash only once at a SR-Bank ATM in Oslo. My Wise Visa worked perfectly, with a 2,000 NOK limit and no local fee. Nordea ATMs dont accept foreign cards  I barely used the cash because Norway is nearly cashless, but it was good to have 200 NOK on hand for buses in smaller towns. Honestly, Norway was one of the easiest countries to handle money in - ATMs are there if you need them, but you probably won’t.

Norway is great for card use, but ATM fees can sneak up depending on your home bank. My HSBC debit card charged me internationally, even though the Nordmore and SB1 MN ATMs itself didn’t. Limits were 2,500-5,000 NOK per transaction. Some Euronet ATMs in touristy spots tried to push EUR withdrawals at terrible rates - avoid those and stick to major banks like DNB or Nordea. If your bank refunds ATM fees, you’ll be fine, otherwise minimize withdrawals and just use your card for everything.

Norway was probably the easiest country I’ve been to when it comes to money. Nokas ATMs in Bergen accepted my Revolut Visa and charged me a 25 NOK fee, and I could withdraw 2,000 NOK in one go. Nord-Norge also worked fine with my Monzo card and charged me 30 NOK fee. The best part was that I rarely needed cash - even small cafés and buses accepted contactless. I only withdrew once during my whole trip, which covered a few coins for toilets and some small purchases. Super convenient.

In Norway, the most reliable ATMs are from Nokas and Nordmore and local banks like Ostlandet. I used my Wise Mastercard with 30 to 75 NOK fees at these and the limit was 2,000 NOK. ATMs are widespread in cities but not always necessary since almost everything can be paid with card or mobile. Still, it’s useful to carry 200-300 NOK for small shops or bathrooms. Always withdraw in NOK, not EUR, to avoid conversion fees.
