Just landed - wondering what gives the better rate in Norfolk Island: ATM withdrawal or airport exchange counter?
Arrived in Norfolk and was glad I waited for the ATM in Burnt Pine rather than using the airport currency desk. The counter takes a bigger chunk than it looks. I suggest taking out enough cash at once to limit fees if you’re staying more than a couple days.
Honestly, airport exchange in Norfolk just isn’t competitive. That fee at the counter really adds up. Use the ANZ ATM in Burnt Pine, especially if you’ve got a Wise or Revolut card - best deal for foreign withdrawals. Only downside is, there’s just the one real ATM.
I used the main ANZ ATM in town and after comparing receipts, my card got me more dollars than at the airport exchange counter. The counter was okay if you just need something to get started, but for real cash, go for the ATM as soon as you can.
Norfolk’s tiny, and your choices are limited. The ANZ ATM in Burnt Pine gave me a much better Aussie dollar exchange than what the airport desk quoted. The counter fee and rate weren’t great for foreigners. Even with a $3 fee, the ATM was still the better option.
