Just landed - wondering what gives the better rate in Marshall Islands: ATM withdrawal or airport exchange counter?
If you can, use a travel card with free ATM withdrawals and stick with Bank of Guam’s machines. The airport desk was alright for some pocket money, but the bank ATM gave a more favorable conversion and no hidden commission.
I compared both, and honestly, the ATMs in town came out ahead. Airport exchange counters tend to round down the rate, so your net is less. If you’re staying on Majuro, get cash from a bank ATM and avoid unnecessary desk charges.
Airport exchange in the Marshall Islands is only convenient for tiny amounts. Bank of Guam and Bank of the Marshall Islands ATMs in Majuro are much better for rate and reliability. Even with the $3-5 withdrawal fee, I got more cash for my buck.
Just back from Majuro - the Bank of Guam ATM in town gave me a better deal than what the airport exchange desk posted. The ATM’s flat fee was about $3, while airport currency counters had worse rates and added their own charge. Always best to use the ATM here.
