Wondering if I need cash for taxis in Northern Mariana Islands or if I can just pay with card or app like in other countries?

It’s inconvenient that taxis in the Northern Mariana Islands aren’t up to date with card or app payments. You have to always carry cash, and change can be tricky. The ATMs aren’t everywhere, so if you run out of cash, you might face problems. Definitely pack enough US dollars before you travel.

I mostly paid cash for taxis in the Northern Mariana Islands. Most drivers didn’t have card readers or accept app payments. The fares were low, so carrying small bills and coins helped make things easy. ATMs in the bigger towns helped me get cash on demand.

If you’re using taxis in Northern Mariana Islands, plan to pay with cash. There’s very limited acceptance of cards or apps for fare payments. I found ATMs like those at Bank of Guam in Saipan useful to stock up on US dollars, which are the local currency here. Carry small denominations for convenience when paying taxi fares.

In the Northern Mariana Islands, taxis mostly accept cash payments in US dollars. Card payment options or apps like Apple Pay are rare for public taxis or shuttles. ATMs accepting Visa and Mastercard are found in Saipan and Tinian, but it’s best to carry small bills for taxi fares since drivers usually expect exact cash.
