Is it better to pay taxis in Nauru with cash, or do drivers accept cards or payment apps?

If you’re planning to take taxis in Nauru, make sure you bring cash. No drivers accept cards or apps. The ATMs are limited and sometimes empty, so get your money early and carry it with you.

On Nauru, taxis only take cash. I tried to use card payment once and was told it wasn’t possible. So bring Australian dollars in cash. The main ANZ bank ATM was the spot to grab pesos before going anywhere.

My trip to Nauru showed me that cash is king. Taxi drivers don’t really have card machines or accept payment apps. The island is tiny, so bring enough cash or get it from the main bank ATM when you arrive.

Nauru is pretty low-tech when it comes to payments. Almost all taxis want cash, usually Australian dollars. I didn’t see any card readers or ask about apps. Withdraw cash early since there aren’t many ATMs, and plan ahead for transport.
