Trying to figure out if buses and metros in Palau take cards or if Ill need small cash. Any recent experiences?
If you’re thinking of public transport in Palau, you’re mostly looking at cash payments to taxis or vans. No card usage there at all. Bring small bills in US dollars for convenience-drivers aren’t going to have machines, and change might be limited.
Palau has no metro system, and public buses are rare. Most travelers rent a scooter or car. For taxis, always pay in cash USD, no card readers on any vehicles I took around Koror or Babeldaob. If you’re relying on local transport, having cash is essential.
I found Palau’s public transport scene pretty basic. No metro for sure, and buses are basically non-existent. Taxis or shuttle vans are the way to go, and they all want cash. I always kept small US dollar bills handy for fares and tipping. Cards aren’t really an option for transport here, so plan accordingly.
In Palau, public transport isn’t super developed. There aren’t really any formal buses or metros like in big cities. Most folks use taxis or rental cars. For taxis, cash is king-expect to pay in US dollars, and cards definitely aren’t accepted. So carry plenty of small bills if you plan to get around without a car.
