Travelling soon and looking for best ATMs in Vanuatu that work well with foreign debit/credit cards and dont charge crazy fees. Any recos will be highly appreciated.
The ATM network in Vanuatu is small but functional. ANZ ATMs dominate Port Vila, and withdrawing cash with foreign cards is simple with low fees. The daily withdrawal limit was about 120,000 Vatu, enough for a week if you’re careful. Smaller towns and outer islands have few ATM facilities, so plan cash needs before heading out. Hostels like White Grass Ocean Resort gave me great tips on ATM locations.
I used my Visa debit at National Bank Vanuatu ATMs and found fees quite reasonable-mostly 300-500 VUV per withdrawal. Daily limits around 150,000 VUV made it easy to handle expenses. The locals tell me that leaving the bank or airport ATMs alone is smart since those charge more. For budget travelers, Wise or Revolut travel cards are a lifesaver here to dodge fees.
Vanuatu is pretty good for travelers with foreign cards. ANZ ATMs in Port Vila are the most reliable; I never got charged extra compared to other banks. My daily withdrawal limit was about 100,000 Vatu. Since card acceptance outside Port Vila can be patchy, I’d suggest withdrawing cash early. Some shops and markets still prefer cash, especially on outer islands.
In Port Vila, I found that ANZ and National Bank of Vanuatu ATMs worked well with my Mastercard without charging silly fees. The withdrawal fees were low, about 200 to 400 VUV per transaction, and daily limits topped around 100,000 VUV. Small island ATMs are rare, so make sure you take out enough cash before heading out. Travel cards like Wise helped keep foreign charges down too.
