On a budget and looking for free ATMs in Fiji - Any top banks?
On my Fiji trip, I used mainly ANZ and BSP ATMs. My Wise Visa worked fine at ANZ with a FJD 500 limit and a FJD 10 fee. BSP also accepted my Revolut card, with again a 10 FJD fee and 1000 FJD limit. I usually withdrew enough to cover several days of transport, meals, and local activities. Resorts took my credit card, but everything else, from fruit markets to boat rides, required cash. Overall, Fiji’s ATMs were reliable in Nadi and Suva, but not to be relied on in rural areas.
Fiji ATM fees can add up quickly. My Chase debit card was hit with a FJD 10 fee at a BSP ATM and a crazy 15 FJD fee at a Westpac ATM in Suva. BSP only gave me 400 FJD so it worked out far more expensive. BSP ATMs sometimes went offline, especially in Lautoka. Machines often ran out of cash during weekends. If you’re on a budget, I’d suggest withdrawing the maximum amount allowed each time and keeping FJD 200-300 handy for daily use. ATMs are fine in cities, but on small islands, cash is essential.
There is only one fee-free ATM in Fiji and that is from an Indian bank called Bank of Baroda. No fee at all and 1,500 FJD limit per transaction - not many of their ATMs so when you do find one get as much cash you need. Its epic. coz if you see the other ATMs - BSP charges 10 FJD, Westpac 15 FJD - paying those kind of fees is crazy for 400 to 1000 FJD withdrawals! I withdrew cash twice during my week-long trip for meals, taxis, and small shops. Most resorts and larger restaurants accepted cards, but local markets and ferries were strictly cash-only. Compared to other Pacific islands, Fiji ATMs were easy enough to use.
In Fiji, the most reliable ATMs for foreign cards are Bank of Baroda, ANZ, BSP (Bank South Pacific), and Westpac. I used my Wise Visa at Bank of Baroda no fees and could get 1000 FJD in one transaxcrion. Then ANZ in Nadi, with a withdrawal limit of FJD 500 and a fee of FJD 10. BSP had similar limits but sometimes rejected Mastercard. Westpac worked with my HSBC debit, though the fee was FJD 1ATMs are widely available in Suva and Nadi, but fewer on the outer islands, so withdraw before leaving the mainland.
