For meals, transport, tips - whats the safe amount to carry in Tajikistan ? Trying to plan a daily budget for a month long trip
Worked remotely during a month in Dushanbe - my average came out to about $55/day. I stayed in a private apartment ($400/month) and ate at a mix of local restaurants and co-working cafes, plus occasional Uber-like rides (Tirilka). I also did a couple of paid day hikes. Total around $1,650. If you plan on mixing comfort and local culture, budgeting between $45-60/day is sensible.
I traveled through Tajikistan on just under $30/day - hostel dorms, street eats, shared marshrutka rides. Meal costs were around 15-25 TJS, and transport rides were cheap. I skipped trekking to save money. If you’re fine keeping it low-key, $900 for a month is doable. Just expect fewer amenities and minimal tipping. Perfect if you're backpacking.
