Dont want to carry too much or too little. Whats the average cash people carry when travelling around Cape Verde?
I found Cape Verde quite affordable compared to Europe. A budget of €60-€70 covers hostels, food, and local transport. Taxis from Espargos to Santa Maria were €12, and shared vans were much cheaper. Food was a highlight-grilled tuna with rice for €6 was common. The only thing that bumped costs was inter-island flights, but if you stick to ferries when possible, you’ll save. Day trips like turtle-watching tours added €30-€40. It’s a solid destination for budget travellers.
For me, Cape Verde ended up around €80 per day. Hotels in Santa Maria were €40-€50, meals in restaurants ranged €8-€12, and cocktails at beach bars were €6-€8. I did a quad bike tour for €50, which was a splurge but fun. Domestic flights between islands were the priciest part, so I’d recommend picking just one or two islands if you’re on a tight budget. Staying in hostels and eating street food will stretch your money further.
I averaged about €50-€60 daily in Cape Verde by keeping it simple. Guesthouses outside the tourist hubs were €15-€20, and I ate a lot of cachupa (local stew) for under €5. Public minibuses were only a couple of euros between towns, which made transport super cheap. Activities like hiking Pico do Fogo or guided tours of Mindelo markets pushed the budget higher, but if you skip tours and do your own exploring, Cape Verde can be very budget friendly.
Cape Verde is much more affordable than I expected. On Sal Island, I spent around €60-€70 a day. Hostels near Santa Maria were €20-€25 a night, local fish meals were €5-€8, and taxis between the airport and town cost about €10. Excursions like island tours or boat trips added €30-€40 each. If you’re hopping between islands like Santiago and São Vicente, budget for flights, which can be €70 one-way. Overall, €70-€90 per day is comfortable.
