For meals, transport, tips - whats the safe amount to carry in Guinea-Bissau ? Trying to plan a daily budget for a month long trip
While in Guinea-Bissau, I found about $50 daily was necessary. It covered meals near Praça dos Heróis, short taxi rides, and tipping guides occasionally. It’s smart to carry cash because cards aren’t widely accepted.
I wouldn’t budget less than 28,000 CFA francs if visiting Bissau, especially to cover meals, mototaxis, and small tips. Staying close to the harbor gave good access to restaurants and transport. Money changers and banks made exchanging easy.
My daily budget averaged around $45 in Guinea-Bissau. Local guesthouses near Bandim and meals at market stalls kept costs low. Taxis, mostly moto-taxis, cost about 1,000 CFA francs per ride. ATMs at Banque Régionale de Solidarité helped with cash.
Traveling around Bissau, I found that carrying around 25,000 to 30,000 CFA francs ($40-$50) daily covered meals, local mototaxi rides, and tipping. Eating mostly street food saved money, and taxis were cheap but cash-only. I stayed near the Central Market where lodging was affordable.
