You should absolutely avoid the airport exchange counters. They give terrible rates. Your best bet is to find a reputable money changer in Khartoum. Due to the country's economic crisis, the official bank rate and the unofficial black market rate are very different. The black market rate is much more favorable. I've had good luck with this method. Just be discreet and count your money carefully.

Don't even think about using the airport exchange. It's a complete scam. You'll get ripped off with their bad rates. The best way to get cash is to go to a reputable money changer in the city. My advice is to carry new US dollar bills and find a trusted person to exchange them for Sudanese Pounds (SDG). This is the only way to get a good rate. The local banks are not a reliable option for cash for a traveler.

The airport exchange is a complete rip-off. You will get a much better rate at a licensed money changer in the city. The country is in a state of flux, and you'll get a much better rate for your US dollars from a private exchanger than you will from a bank. My advice is to find a trusted one in a neighborhood and exchange there. It's the only way to get a good rate. You won't be able to use a debit or credit card at an ATM.

This is a tricky one. Due to the country's severe economic situation and sanctions, international cards do not work at ATMs. You must bring enough cash with you, preferably US dollars. The airport exchange counters are not a good option. Your best bet is to find a reputable currency exchange center in Khartoum. The unofficial exchange rate is much better than the official bank rate. I've used places near the market and got a good rate. Just be discreet and count your money carefully.
