Need cash when I land, best place in Morocco? Airport or places in the city?
Casablanca’s Mohammed V Airport exchange booths are convenient but pricey. If you can, exchange small amount at the airport for immediate cash, then hit up exchange offices downtown like Finance Plus in Rabat for better rates. Don’t forget locals prefer cash, so ATMs and bureaus in city centers are your best bet.
Don’t rely on airport currency exchanges in Morocco. I waited until I got to city exchange bureaus, especially around Jemaa el Fna in Marrakech, where rates felt fairer and services more honest. ATMs in larger cities at banks like BMCE or BMCI also dispense local dirhams with reasonable fees.
Moroccan airports have lots of exchange counters, but they charge more and give poorer rates. Better to exchange cash in city centers like Marrakech or Rabat at money exchange offices like CBC or Change Plus. Also, Marrakech’s big banks offer ATMs widely, and Mastercard or Visa cards work well there.
Landing in Casablanca, I skipped the airport exchange counters because they had the worst rates and high commission. Instead, I took a taxi to downtown Casablanca and visited the Trésor Exchange or Casa Exchange bureaus for a much better deal. ATMs from Attijariwafa Bank or Banque Populaire are common and reliable for cash withdrawal too.
