Just landed - wondering what gives the better rate in Burkina Faso: ATM withdrawal or airport exchange counter?
If you’re landing in Burkina Faso, skip the airport exchange for bigger amounts. I used UBA ATMs and saw better rates than the airport desk. Airport exchange is only convenient for a little taxi cash, but bank ATMs give more value overall.
I found that withdrawing cash from ATMs in Ouagadougou was better value than changing at the airport. Rates at airport exchange counters were rough and fees high. Using Visa at Ecobank ATMs was hassle-free and gave better currency value.
From my trip to Burkina Faso, I’d avoid the airport exchange counter unless you really need cash on arrival. Bank ATMs like Ecobank or UBA gave me way better exchange rates. Just watch out for limited ATM network in smaller towns, so plan your cash needs.
Just landed in Ouagadougou and honestly, the airport exchange counter was way worse than the ATMs. I used Ecobank ATMs downtown and even with a small withdrawal fee, I got a much better rate. Airport counters charge hidden fees and give bad rates, so try to withdraw cash from banks instead.
