Trying to figure out if buses and metros in Morocco take cards or if Ill need small cash. Any recent experiences?
Coins and tokens only. I used local transport cards in bigger cities after reloading with dirhams. Card payments not an option.
Took the Marrakech bus a few times and paid with coins to the driver. No card machine. In cities with tram systems like Rabat or Casablanca it’s the transport card again. No international cards accepted on board.
I tried paying directly on the Rabat buses with my contactless debit card. Didn’t work. Drivers just looked confused
In Casablanca I used the tram and bus with a rechargeable Casa-Tram card only. You can’t tap your Mastercard or Visa on it. I loaded it with cash at the station and topped it up easily. So yes you need to carry a few dirhams for the card top‑up.
