I need to take out quite a bit of cash during my trip. Anyone know cheapest ATMs & daily withdrawal limits for foreign cards at Namibia ATMs?
On my Namibia trip, I mostly used Standard Bank ATMs in Windhoek and FNB in Swakopmund. My Wise Visa worked fine with NAD 2,000 limits and NAD 50 fees. Revolut Mastercard also worked reliably. I withdrew enough cash to cover accommodation, petrol, and food for several days. Namibia is very cash-heavy outside Windhoek, so planning withdrawals was crucial. ATMs felt safe in malls, though I avoided late-night use. Overall, Namibia’s ATM network worked well for me, but preparation made things smoother.
Namibia can be tricky for ATM access. My HSBC debit card was rejected at Bank Windhoek in Swakopmund, and when it worked, the limit was NAD 1,500 with a NAD 55 fee. Machines often had long queues, especially before weekends. Independent ATMs in petrol stations sometimes added hidden surcharges. Best advice: stick with Standard Bank or FNB, withdraw larger amounts in Windhoek before heading out on long drives, and always carry some USD or ZAR since both are widely accepted.
I had a good experience with FNB ATMs in Namibia. My Monzo Mastercard worked without issues, and I was able to withdraw NAD 2,000 in one go with a NAD 50 fee. Standard Bank also accepted my Revolut Visa. I withdrew a couple of times for fuel, food, and safaris since most lodges outside cities required cash. ATMs in shopping centers felt safe and always gave me smaller notes, which was handy. Namibia felt more reliable than some other African countries for cash.
In Namibia, Standard Bank, FNB (First National Bank), and Bank Windhoek are the safest ATMs to use with foreign cards. I used my Wise Visa at Standard Bank in Windhoek and withdrew NAD 2,000 (~$100 USD) with a NAD 50 fee. FNB ATMs worked with my Revolut Mastercard, offering the same limit. Bank Windhoek ATMs capped my Monzo Visa at NAD 1,500. Machines are concentrated in Windhoek, Swakopmund, and Walvis Bay, but rural areas have very few, so plan ahead.
